Change Order
The Change Order contract type handles scope modifications after your original contract has been signed.
When to Use
Use a Change Order when:
- The original contract (Project Proposal or Design Services) is already signed
- The customer requests additions or changes to the scope
- You need to document and price the modifications
Example: Customer adds a deck to their remodel project three weeks after the original contract was signed.
What Happens When Signed
When a customer signs a Change Order:
- Change estimate locks - The change order estimate becomes read-only
- Project sold amount updates - Original contract value increases by change order amount
- Additional invoices created - New invoices generated for the change order work
- Original estimate remains locked - Base project estimate stays protected
- Production dates recalculated - Project dates may be adjusted based on system fields
System Fields
Change Order contracts include these system fields in the contract sidebar:
| Field | Description | How It's Used |
|---|---|---|
| Duration Adjustment | How many weeks or days to add or subtract from the project schedule | Adjusts the parent project's total duration and recalculates finish dates |
| Duration Interval | Weeks or Days | Determines the unit for the duration adjustment (5 business days = 1 week) |
How Change Orders Affect Project Dates
When a Change Order is signed, the system adjusts the parent project's production dates based on the Duration Adjustment value:
- Positive values extend the project — a value of
2(weeks) adds 2 weeks to the current schedule - Negative values shorten the project — a value of
-1(weeks) removes 1 week from the schedule - Zero means no schedule impact — the change order is recorded but project dates remain unchanged
The system converts the adjustment to weeks (using 5 business days per week), adds it to the parent project's current duration, and recalculates the Predicted Finish Date and Contracted Finish Date. The total project duration cannot be reduced to zero or below.
If the change order contract is unlocked for editing, the duration adjustment is automatically reversed to restore the original project dates before the contract can be re-signed.
These updated dates appear on the project's Info Panel and affect when any payment schedule invoices are due.
