Labor & Material Report

Breaks a sold estimate down assembly by assembly, showing the quantity, material dollars, labor hours and dollars, and subcontractor dollars behind every line. Use it as a takeoff sheet and as a cost check before work starts.

Accessing the Report

From an estimate: open the estimate, click the menu in the estimate header, then Labor & Material Report.

From a project: on the project page, use the Labor & Material Report button in the Primary Estimate Overview panel.

The report is also available in the Readybuild iOS app.

Report Columns

AssemblyAssembly name and subtitle. Click it to open the assembly for editing without leaving the report
QuantityHow much of the assembly the estimate includes, with its unit of measure (for example 12 EA)
Material DollarsMaterial cost for the quantity shown, including any selection adjustment
Labor DollarsLabor cost for the quantity shown
Labor Hours DemoDemolition hours for the quantity shown, alongside the demo dollars
Labor Hours InstallInstallation hours for the quantity shown, alongside the install dollars
Sub DollarsSubcontractor cost for the quantity shown
TotalMaterial + Labor + Sub for the quantity shown

Every dollar and hour figure is already multiplied by the quantity, so the Total column is what the assembly contributes to the estimate — not a per-unit rate.

Rows that total zero are highlighted in red, which usually means the assembly has no priced components yet.

How the Report Is Organized

The report groups assemblies from the top down:

  1. Area — each area of the estimate, in area order
  2. Category — cost code categories within the area
  3. Assemblies — the individual lines, with a Category Subtotal after each category and an Area Total after each area

Below the areas, an Overall Totals block repeats each category's total across the whole estimate, followed by:

Subtotal and total rows leave the Quantity column blank on purpose. Assemblies are measured in different units — each, square feet, linear feet — so adding their quantities together would not produce a meaningful number.

Export Options

Click Export to Excel to download the report as an .xlsx workbook.

The export carries the same rows as the screen, with two differences that make the numbers easier to work with in Excel:

  • Quantity and Unit are separate columns. The quantity stays a real number you can sort and sum; the unit sits beside it as text.
  • Labor hours and labor dollars are separate columns. On screen they share a cell.

Every dollar, hour, and quantity is written as a number rather than pre-formatted text, so formulas, sorting, and pivot tables work without cleanup.

If Show Work Scope is selected, each assembly's scope text is included beneath its row in the workbook.

Using the Report

As a takeoff sheet

Export to Excel and work from the Quantity column to order materials or scope out subcontractor bids, without reopening the estimate.

Sanity-checking an estimate

Scan for red rows (zero totals) and for quantities that look wrong for the space. A quantity error is easier to spot here than inside the estimate itself.

Before production starts

Review Total Hours and Total Days against the schedule to confirm the crew plan matches what was estimated.

Tips

  • Turn on Show Combined Report to see the full picture once change orders have been sold
  • Use Show Work Scope when handing the report to a subcontractor so the scope travels with the numbers
  • An assembly with no unit of measure shows just the number — set the unit on the assembly if the quantity needs context
