File Management
The Files & Photos section in each project lets you upload, organize, preview, and share documents and images. You can access it from the Files tab on any project.
View Modes
Toggle between two layouts using the view mode buttons in the top-right corner of the file list. Your preference is saved and persists across sessions.
- Grid view — Displays files as cards with thumbnail previews for images and color-coded icons for other file types. Folders appear as cards with a badge showing the number of items inside.
- List view — Displays files in a table with columns for Name, Size, and Modified date. Folders are listed first, followed by files.
In both views, files load automatically as you scroll down (infinite scroll).
Navigating Folders
Entering a Folder
Double-click a folder card (grid view) or folder row (list view) to navigate into it. The breadcrumb bar at the top updates to show your current location in the folder hierarchy.
Breadcrumb Navigation
The breadcrumb trail shows your path from the project root to the current folder. Click any breadcrumb to jump directly to that level.
Folder Badges
In grid view, each folder displays a badge with the total number of items it contains (subfolders and files combined).
Uploading Files
Upload Button
- Click the green Upload Files button in the toolbar.
- The upload dialog opens, showing the current project and destination folder.
- Drag files into the dialog or click to browse your computer.
- A progress bar appears for each file as it uploads.
- When all uploads complete, the file list refreshes automatically.
You can upload multiple files at once. Each file shows its own progress indicator and a status icon (checkmark for success, error icon for failure).
Drag and Drop
You can also drag files directly from your computer onto the file area. Drop them anywhere in the file list and the upload begins immediately.
The maximum file size is 100 MB per file. HEIC images (common on iPhones) are automatically converted to JPG format after upload.
Creating Folders
- Click the Create Folder button (folder icon) next to the Upload Files button.
- Enter a folder name in the dialog.
- Press Enter or click Create.
The new folder appears in the current directory. You can nest folders to any depth.
Searching Files
Type in the Search by filename field in the toolbar to filter files by name.
- Search results update as you type (with a brief delay).
- While searching, folders are hidden and only matching files are shown.
- Clear the search field to return to normal folder browsing.
Sorting Files
Use the sort dropdown in the toolbar to change the file order:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Filename (A-Z) | Alphabetical, ascending |
| Filename (Z-A) | Alphabetical, descending |
| Date (New) | Most recently uploaded first |
| Date (Old) | Oldest uploads first |
Folders always appear before files regardless of the sort order.
Viewing File Details
Click any file card (grid view) or file row (list view) to open the View Details dialog. This dialog provides a full preview and file actions.
File Preview
The preview area supports several file types:
- Images — Full-size preview with zoom and pan. Use your mouse wheel to zoom and click-drag to pan around the image.
- PDFs — Built-in PDF viewer with page navigation.
- Excel spreadsheets — Rendered as an interactive table.
- CSV files — Displayed in a formatted table.
- Word documents — Rendered document preview.
- Other files — A generic file icon is shown. Download the file to view it in an external application.
Navigating Between Files
Use the Previous and Next arrows at the bottom of the dialog to move through files without closing the preview. Navigation follows the current sort order and works across pages.
File Actions
The details dialog includes these action buttons:
- Download — Saves the file to your computer. Images and PDFs open in a new browser tab.
- Rename — Opens a dialog to change the filename.
- Move to... — Opens the move dialog to relocate the file to a different folder.
- Delete — Opens a confirmation dialog to delete the file.
File Actions Menu
Each file has a more options menu (three-dot icon) available in both grid and list views. The menu contains:
- View Details — Opens the file preview dialog.
- Download — Downloads the file directly.
- Rename — Opens the rename dialog.
- Move to... — Opens the move dialog.
- Delete — Opens the delete confirmation dialog.
Folders also have a more options menu with a Rename option.
Renaming Files and Folders
- Open the more options menu on a file or folder.
- Click Rename.
- Enter the new name in the dialog.
- Click Save.
You can also rename files from the View Details dialog.
Moving Files and Folders
- Open the more options menu on a file or select multiple items and click Move in the bulk action bar.
- In the Move to dialog, browse the folder tree to find the destination.
- Click folders to navigate into them. Use the breadcrumbs at the top to go back.
- Click Move Here to confirm.
When moving folders, the folder being moved is hidden from the destination list to prevent moving a folder into itself.
Deleting Files and Folders
- Open the more options menu on a file or select multiple items and click Delete in the bulk action bar.
- The confirmation dialog shows the name(s) of the items to be deleted.
- Click Delete to confirm.
Deleting a folder removes the folder and all files inside it. This action cannot be undone.
Tags
Tags let you label files for easier searching and categorization.
Adding Tags
- Open the View Details dialog for a file.
- Tags associated with the file appear below the filename.
- Click Add Tag to create or select a tag.
Removing Tags
Click the X on an existing tag to remove it from the file.
Selecting Multiple Items
You can select multiple files and folders to perform bulk actions.
Using Checkboxes
Click the checkbox on any file or folder to add it to your selection. In list view, a checkbox column appears on the left. In grid view, checkboxes appear when you hover over a card.
Bulk Action Bar
When one or more items are selected, the bulk action bar replaces the toolbar and displays:
- The number of selected items (e.g., "3 items selected")
- A Select all button to select every item in the current view
- Download, Move, and Delete action buttons
- An X button to clear the selection
Navigating to a different folder clears the current selection.
Bulk Download
Select one or more files and folders, then click Download in the bulk action bar.
Single file selected (no folders): The file downloads directly to your browser — no ZIP archive is created.
Multiple files or folders: Readybuild prepares the download in the background:
- Click Download in the bulk action bar.
- A notification confirms that your download is being prepared.
- You receive an email with a download link when the ZIP archive is ready.
The ZIP preserves your folder structure — files inside selected folders appear under their original folder paths.
Download links expire after 48 hours. If a download exceeds 500 MB, it is split into multiple ZIP files and you receive a separate download link for each.
File Type Icons
Files display color-coded icons based on their type:
| File Type | Icon Color |
|---|---|
| Images (JPG, PNG, GIF, etc.) | Thumbnail preview |
| Red | |
| Excel / CSV | Green |
| Word documents | Blue |
| Other files | Blue (generic) |
